China on Sunday welcomes the progress made through reconciliation and cooperation between North Korea and South Korea.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang made the remarks when commenting on the just-concluded second meeting between South’s President Moon Jae-in and North’s top leader Kim Jong Un.

Lu said that China welcomes and supports Seoul and Pyongyan to implement the consensus reached between the two leaders through dialogue, reconciliation and cooperation embodied in the Panmunjom Declaration.

On Saturday, Moon held a surprise meeting with Kim to ensure a summit between Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump goes off successfully.

It was the clearest sign yet that the on-again off-again summit between Trump and Kim is likely to be held as initially agreed, in Singapore on June 12.

The unannounced meeting at the Panmunjom border village between MOON and Kim came a month after they held the first inter-Korean summit in more than a decade at the same venue and declared they would toward a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.

Lu said China always believes that direct contact and dialogue between DPRK and U.S. leaders is the key to solving the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

Also on Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was still looking at a June 12 summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore, adding that talks were progressing very well.
