Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Party won a landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh in a personal triumph that will strengthen his claim to a second term as national leader.
The chief of Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party said his party’s strong showing in the assembly elections will bring an era of “politics of performance” in the country.
With the tally of results almost complete, the BJP had collected as many as 312 of 403 seats in the state assembly, the biggest majority for any party in the state since 1977.
The BJP will discuss who will become the next chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.
