A Minivan in Peru containing 16 people was swept away by an overflowing river as flooding throughout the country has affected more than 300-thousand people.

A police officer was travelling within the minivan and used his pistol to break the windows to help the passengers escape.

Footage shows one passenger being swept up by the river’s current and escaping through the window.

None of the passengers were severely injured.

The driver of the Minivan was placed under police custody as investigations on the incident are underway.
