11 people were killed and scores were injured by falling trees and debris from buildings as a storm swept through Moscow on Monday.

Hundreds of trees were uprooted, as meteorologists reported winds of up to 50 meters per hour.

News agencies reported falling trees had blocked roads and metro railways.

Multiple videos on social media networks showed uprooted trees and damaged cars as well as a tennis tent which was blown off as people were still inside.

Moscow mayor said on his twitter account that more than 40 people had asked for medical assistance.
