Female combat photographer captured fatal blast that took her life

The US military on Wednesday released two photographs taken in 2013 that show the moment an accidental mortar explosion killed five people during a training exercise.

Fatalities included hilda clayton, a female US combat photographer who took one of the two images just before her death.

Clayton was a visual information specialist assigned at the time of the accident to the 55th signal company, also known as combat camera.

According to the US military magazine military review that published the photos, four soldiers were also killed in the blast.

In a side note, the magazine said the images illustrates the dangers military men and women both face in training and in combat.

It also focuses on promoting the concepts of gender equality.
