Stranded passengers at airports across Britain said they were “gutted” after Monarch Airlines collapsed on Monday.
The airline fell victim to intense competition for flights to holiday destinations in Spain and Portugal.
The failure of Monarch, the largest British Airline to go bust, will affect nearly 900,000 passengers in total and prompted the country’s biggest peacetime repatriation effort.
Lunes pa lamang ng gabi ay nagsimula nang ipatigil ng Philipppine Coast Guard (PCG) sa Matnog, Sorsogon ang byahe ng 10 roro papapuntang Allen, Northern Samar.
Ayon sa PCG Matnog, kahit walang gale warning sa probinsya ay nakataas namaan sa storm signal number 1 sa Northern Samar.
Bunsod nito, nasa 1,259 na pasahero na ang stranded sa Matnog Port, gayundin ang 48 bus, 64 truck, 35 na light car at 147 rolling cargos.
Naiintindihan naman ng ilang pasahero ang hakbang na ito ng PCG. Tanging pakiusap lang ng mga ito sa PCG at sa lokal na pamahalaan na mabigyan sila ng makakain.
Kahapon ay nagpulong na rin ang mga ahensya ng pamahalaan sa pangunguna ng LGU Matnog, Sorsogon, Philipppine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Army, Municipal Social, Welfare and Development.
Kabilang sa kanilang mga napag-usapan ay kung papaano nila mapangangalagaan ang mga stranded na pasahero.
Sisimulan na rin anila ang pamimigay ng pagkain sa mga apektadong pasahero. Maglalagay naman ng check points ang PNP sa mga posibleng daraanan ng mga byaherong papuntang pantalan para mapagbawalan ng huwag ng tumuloy.
Ayon sa PCG, posible pang madagdag ang bilang ng mga naantalang pasahero sa loob ng 24 oras hanggat nakataas pa rin ang gale warning sa Kabisayaan.
Sa Pilar Port sa Sorsogon, hindi rin pinahintulutang makatawid ng Masbate Island ang ilang mga pasahero 95, 5 vessel at 3 motorized banca dahil nakataas ron sa probinsya ang storm signal number 1.
